4 Kinds of Thimbles
Yubinuki is a Japanese name for these short band thimbles. They are not tapered. They are worn covering the base of the fingernail. Push from the side. These are solid sterling and can be worn on your thumb as well.
These thimbles are used by stitchers who push the needle using the side of the finger. Tailor's thimbles are narrow at one end and wide at the other, while yubinukis are shorter and not tapered. Both styles allow the user to touch the needle directly with the end of the finger.
The open nail thimble is open on the fingernail side. The opening provides ease of fit and air conditioning during use. They are also beautifully decorative.
Sterling silver closed top thimbles are all purpose tools for hand sewing. They come in many sizes and shapes. Each one is uniquely finished by hand.
